Spring Attire: The Denim Jacket

Before it gets super hot in New York, I wanted to do a shoot with this awesome thrifted denim jacket I found in Brooklyn. It’s amazing what you’re able to find at thrift shops. Some of my favorite items, like this blazer and these Ferragamo shoes are thrift finds.

As far as menswear staples go, the denim jacket is definately up there. The denim jacket is not only seasonally versatile but also one of the best pieces that spells out effortless style. A well-fitting version looks just as on point alongside a t-shirt and shorts as it does in place of a blazer in the company of a button-down shirt and textured tie.

With this look, I decided to dress up the denim jacket. Keep in mind, when attempting to look stylish in denim, refrain from wearing any other piece of denim. It doesn’t really matter if the jacket is dark-washed and the jeans are stone-washed, wear them as part of separate outfits or risk being looked at as “that guy” wearing the “Canadian tuxedo”.

I also recommend avoiding trousers that are obviously too “dressy”. For example, black pinstriped slacks. Try a pair of chinos that create a good contrast with the blue of your denim jacket. Here, I’m rockin my light cream H&M chinos.
