About three weeks ago I had the honor of attending the United Nations “One Humanity” event for World Humanitarian Day at the UN General Assembly Hall. This was my first invite/visit to the UN so it was pretty exciting to say the least!
In support of the 130 million people in need of aid worldwide, the United Nations and its partners, humanitarian visionaries, celebrity musicians and influencers came together for World Humanitarian Day (WHD) through the power of music, storytelling and advocacy. The One Humanity event aim was to inspire action on the part of global citizens to continue to demand action to reach those affected by conflict, disaster and those in need of humanitarian assistance.
Guest speakers included United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson, Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Hala Kamil (subject of 2016 PBS Documentary, “Children of Syria”), and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (acclaimed Nigerian author). There were also performances by Leslie Odom Jr. (Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s “Hamilton”), Mohammed Assaf (Palestinian Singer and “Arab Idol” winner) and Alisan Porter (winner of “The Voice”).
Feel free to check out my full outfit post here to see what I wore for the event.
